Calixtus III

Calixtus III. was elected April 8, with a speed which showed how dangerous a papal interregnum was considered.

Calixtus III., and Innocent III., disputed and weakened the authority of the head of the church.

The Pope, Calixtus III., was engaged in a war at that time with the Saracens.

In accordance with his father’s will, he succeeded him on the throne of Naples in 1458, but Pope Calixtus III. declared the line of Aragon extinct and the kingdom a fief of the church.
