Baking soda and washing soda are made up of the same chemical components, but are different substances. Washing soda is a form of sodium carbonate, Na₂CO₃⋅10��₂O, and is used for applications such as cleaning, bleaching, and soap manufacture. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate, NaHCO₃, made through the reaction of sodium carbonate and carbon dioxide. Among other things, baking soda is used in baking as a leavening agent and also in medicine as an antacid.
