The group will have industry representation from Jet2, Virgin Atlantic, Ryanair, BA and travel association ABTA, as well as London Stansted, East Midlands, Manchester and Glasgow airports.

"It's important to remember that even if your departure airport in the UK has changed its rules around liquids when you travel later this year, you'll also need to check the rules that are in place for the airport you'll be returning from as they may be different," Abta said.

Travel association Abta advised people planning holidays this summer to double check the rules at each end of their journey.

Sean Tipton, from the travel agents trade body ABTA, said: "During the pandemic, the travel industry was by far the worst affected. Business fell through the floor. Over 100,000 people left the travel sector."

Britons in particular have booked fewer holidays at home and more in the Mediterranean, often many months in advance, as they continue to crave post-lockdown beach escapes, said Sean Tipton of British travel agent group ABTA.
