Since the beginning of touring “Achtung Baby,” we were riffing on this idea of “even better than the real thing.”

This project was a celebration of “Achtung Baby,” so we’re anxious to do something that’s about new work.

After its polarizing sixth album, “Rattle & Hum,” U2 retreated from ’80s overexposure and re-emerged with a fresh ’90s rebrand on “Achtung Baby,” a Brian Eno-produced triumph that added some needed irony to the band’s outlook and made the Edge’s guitar glisten like a newly invented form of synthetic crystal.

The “Atomic City” musicians launched their immersive “U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere” residency on Sept. 29, inaugurating the innovative, $2.3-billion concert hall that had been delayed by two years.

Director Darren Aronofksy‘s dreamy film “Postcard From Earth” landed at the Sphere in Las Vegas on Friday night, a week after U2 inaugurated the orb-shaped arena with a graphics-saturated concert inspired by their “Achtung Baby” album — and it was an event.
