The Manta-Manaus route includes the Brazilian state of Amazonas and parts of the states of Roraima, Para and Amapa in a river link to Colombia, Peru and Ecuador.

The Guyana Islands route project will boost infrastructure in Brazil’s northern states of Amapa and Roraima to better connect them to Guyana, French Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro pushed Lula to block all new oil development in the region, as Brazil weighs whether to develop a potentially huge offshore oil find on the coast of northern Amapa state.

Also this week, the congress is debating whether the state-run oil giant should be allowed to drill off the coast in the Amazon states of Amapa and Para.

Petrobras said in a statement on its website the appeal would include additional measures to protect the environment in the northern state of Amapa, the closest to the offshore area it intends to drill.
