Salgado's later projects included working with 12 indigenous communities to create the Amazonia exhibition, which was displayed at the Science Museum in London and the the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester in 2021 and 2022.

Both scores featured live music, Russian pianist Vladimir Rumyantsev playing Beethoven’s “Diabelli” Variations offstage and Third Coast Percussion performing Glass’ “Aguas da Amazonia” in the pit.

The authors add, "'Nature's Strongholds' -- large, interconnected, ecologically intact areas that are well managed and equitably governed -- are identified in Amazonia and Central Africa. The approach offers an effective way to conserve biodiversity at a global scale."
