Federal authorities have arrested hundreds of potentially undocumented immigrants in Los Angeles this month, targeting day laborers at a Home Depot, factory workers at a downtown apparel company and cleaners at car washes across the city.

National Cement Company officials said the project would capture up to 1 million tons of CO2 per year — effectively the entire emissions profile of its cement plant near the border of Los Angeles and Kern counties — but also would act as a roadmap for the cement industry as a whole.

"By direction of the Secretary of Defense and in coordination with U.S. Northern Command," the statement reads, "2,000 additional California Army National Guard soldiers have been activated in a Title 10 status to support the protection of federal functions, personnel, and property in the greater Los Angeles area."

Tubs containing pills made up of these fungi are on the shelves of Whole Foods and Sprouts stores across the country and in the supplement aisles of Erewhon across Los Angeles County.
