"We are providing local authorities with an additional £186.5m to restore teacher numbers, alongside an additional £29m to support the recruitment and retention of the ASN workforce," a spokesperson said.

ASN is part of the Flight Safety Foundation, a nonprofit group that aims to promote safe air travel and tracks accidents.

He said the number of ASN teachers had dropped by 200 in that period.

ASN school Woodland View will be closed to pupils with the exception of those in S4, S5 and S6 who can attend as normal.

In March 2023 ASN found that the qualifications of certain welders—who have to make nuclear-plant-grade welds between metal parts—had been falsified.
