Michael Patzelt, a 37-year-old Attleboro man with a lengthy rap sheet, was charged Wednesday in Boston Municipal Court with assault and malicious destruction of property over the vandalized 150-year-old crucifix.

He failed to appear in district court last week in Attleboro for a hearing related to reckless driving and speeding charges he faced while still a member of the New England Patriots, according to court documents.

According to a court docket, Jackson was supposed to appear in Attleboro District Court last Friday related to reckless driving and speeding charges from 2021, when he played for the New England Patriots.
