Austral Islands

At the time he went overboard, the Silver Supporter was about 400 nautical miles south of French Polynesia’s southernmost Austral Islands.

Christian and his men sailed the Bounty to Tubuai, in the Austral Islands, and then back to Tahiti, where some mutineers chose to remain.

From these facts we may infer, perhaps, that the Cook and Austral Islands have been upheaved at a period probably not very remote.
