As a blue state with a massive immigrant population, California is a key player in the nation’s immigration showdown.

Both Salt Lake City and Cincinnati were perceived as blue cities within red states, while Boulder is seen as a blue city in a blue state.

“Now it has started to become much more of this kind of red state, blue state thing,” said Richard Carpiano, a public policy professor at the UC Riverside who has studied vaccine hesitancy.

Monday’s suit is one of several that Bonta and blue state attorneys general have filed against the Trump administration.

The point is simple: The Trump administration is showing extreme governing competence in helping Los Angeles recover from the wildfires, and no signs at all of punishing a deeply blue state.
