Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham described the move as "a massive coup" for the area.

A quarry in the Lake District, a beach in Pembrokshire, Wales and a nature reserve in Burnham were all also used as shooting locations.

The proposal was backed by opposition MPs, as well as some Labour figures including Rotherham MP Sarah Champion alongside Labour mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham.

The new mayor was established under the previous Tory administration in 2023 to push powers out of Westminster, copying the blueprint of London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham.

The fair’s chief architect, Daniel Hudson Burnham, created a wildly expensive campus of Beaux Arts white buildings, brought in designers including Frederick Law Olmsted, and wowed millions with a large-scale incandescent light display.
