On Saturday, journalist Ben Camacho was documenting the scene in Paramount, where images of people vandalizing and burning cars dominated the nightly newscasts.

After helping carry Stern to safety, Camacho said he too was struck by a round in the kneecap.

The winner was Sofia Camacho, a drag artist and Nike run coach based in New York, who clocked in at one hour, 15 minutes and 25 seconds.

In one corner is a group of prominent independent journalists, including Cerise Castle and Ben Camacho, who have built large public followings for tough reporting on local law enforcement.

Camacho and Castle charge that Ground Game LA has continued to profit off their work without authorization, even after blocking their access to the site, and are seeking nearly $5 million in damages.
