Cllr Ruairi Kelly, the convener for development and land use at Glasgow city council, said the proposals will play a "significant role in our ambition to grow the city centre population" through providing a housing boost.

Cllr David Fothergill, from the LGA, says he would like to see an increase in the public health grant which funds school-based screening, so that councils can commission and deliver the full range of services needed to improve child health.

UUP cllr Trevor Wilson voiced his support for the motion and passed on his condolences to the McMullan family.

Lord Mayor of Belfast Cllr Micky Murray said he is "delighted" the event will be held in Belfast.

Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts, Somerset Council's executive lead member for communities, housing and culture, said it was "very disappointing news indeed for our communities and the creative industries" in the county.
