But it wasn’t until 2023 that the CSB released a report that found the plant, built in 1979, had not been updated with security standards to prepare for such climate disasters.

Researchers from the group of biochemist Professor Julian Stingele from LMU's Gene Center Munich have now uncovered important details about the role of the CSB/ERCC6 and CSA/ERCC8 genes involved in Cockayne syndrome.

"Our results indicate that CSB and CSA then initiate the transcription-coupled repair of the toxic DNA-protein crosslinks," says Stingele.

The CSB report noted the company has also made safety upgrades to its freezer design.

Foundation Food Group did not immediately respond Thursday to an email message seeking comment on the CSB’s findings.
