Today X exclusively surfaces the most upsetting content conceivable in our timelines; its gouging monetization program encourages incessant spam from brain-dead engagement farmers; its doofus A.I. model lectures the public about imaginary white genocide; its emboldened Nazi community edits together Day-Glo fan cams of Joseph Goebbels, Reinhard Heydrich, and Adolf Hitler.

Robert Overby‘s full-scale latex casts of ordinary L.A. architectural facades come to mind, as do Lynda Benglis’ floor-bound Day-Glo pours of liquid rubber latex, made in New York.

There are villages packed with life; a Zen retreat atop a windswept rocky bluff; and a seaside resort town, complete with fashionable swimwear and Day-Glo scooters.

“Barbie” serves its fear and trembling with a Day-Glo nod and wink, which somehow makes it even more pungent.

For all its fizzing energy, this is a sorrowful film — sorry for the girls, sorry for the guys — keyed into the sadness that lurks in day-glo places, pool parties, dance podiums and the overlit cosmetics aisle of an airport duty-free.
