Denali National Park

In 2016, Shapiro and his wife boarded a bright red plane mounted with skis to fly over Denali National Park in Alaska to get to their ceremony.

While the change was blocked for decades, the park in 1980 was renamed Denali National Park and Preserve.

The climber was using a satellite communication device to keep in contact with their family during a solo attempt to climb Denali, according to a statement from Denali National Park and Preserve.

One climber died and another was seriously injured after they fell about 1,000 feet from a peak at Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska late on Thursday, officials said.

Three climbers in Alaska’s Denali National Park died in May in two separate incidents the same day.
