Nicole Scherzinger, who was honored as best lead actress in a musical for her portrayal of Norma Desmond in a bracing revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Sunset Boulevard,” demonstrated the power of theater to seize hold of us when she performed “As If We Never Said Goodbye” on the telecast.

Scherzinger also performed As If We Never Said Goodbye during the ceremony, and was introduced by Glenn Close, who played Desmond in Sunset Boulevard when it played on Broadway in 1995.

Two other officers involved in the death, Emmitt Martin III and Desmond Mills, have pleaded guilty to federal charges, avoiding trial.

Rodney Rice chose USC over other college basketball powers, but hours later star guard Desmond Claude left the team.

At USC, the expectation is Rice will play more point guard than he has in the past, handling the ball and facilitating the offense alongside Desmond Claude, who served as the Trojans primary floor general last season.
