The process involves two parts: a 30-minute signal sent to radios and televisions as part of EAS, and a similar one sent to all consumer cell phones as part of the WEA system.

Rosenworcel and the other FCC commissioners all support the proposed changes to EAS warnings.

Visorsat has yet to reach its operational altitude so, Olivier Hainaut of the European Southern Observatory told the EAS briefing, “we don’t know yet” how bright it will appear.

“To invest in the airport to accommodate projected growth while simultaneously threatening that growth by denying the airport’s EAS waiver appears contradictory and shortsighted,” they wrote.

While Trump attended the U.S.-ASEAN summit in Manila in 2017, he has never attended a full EAS meeting.
