This part of the Essonne department was once famous for its “green gold”, but many cressonnières were abandoned from the 1970s and are only now being resurrected.

The French media widely reported that the man, who lived with his parents in the Essonne region, outside Paris, was of Iranian origin.

Police clashed with protesters in the northern city of Lille and in Toulouse in the southwest, and there was also unrest in Amiens, Dijon and the Essonne administrative department south of the French capital, a police spokesman said.

Born in the Paris suburbs, Kiss began working as a tradesman at 15, after being kicked out of boarding school in the nearby Essonne region.

The Essonne police department didn’t respond to questions about the fines received by Assam and Bouchouf.
