It was Baroness Falkner, the woman who heads the watchdog that regulates equality laws, who described the judgement as a victory for common sense.

Baroness Kishwer Falkner, chairwoman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, said the organisation was "pleased" the judgment addressed "difficulties" it highlighted in its submission to the court.

Chairwoman Baroness Kishwer Falkner said they must proactively support disabled students instead of waiting on them to come forward and ask for help.

Mrs Knight’s case was also supported by the Equality and Human Rights Commission and its chairwoman, Baroness Kishwer Falkner says the former corporal is “an inspiration to young soldiers”.

Baroness Falkner added: “We are here to protect and promote human rights… and we will continue to do that irrespective of what happens here.”
