Meta says it faces competition from apps such as TikTok and YouTube, but the FTC says video apps are different from personal social networking services.

"They decided that competition was too hard and it would be easier to buy out their rivals than to compete with them," said FTC lawyer Daniel Matheson in his opening statement at Monday's trial.

The FTC reviewed and approved those acquisitions but committed to monitor the outcomes.

If the website doesn’t end in “.gov,” then it’s not a federal government website, according to the FTC.
