GMP said a 37-year-old woman and a 14-year-old girl - both arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender - had been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Det Ch Insp John Charlton of GMP said police were supporting the boy's family and were "determined to give them the answers they deserve".

GMP appealed for "information, doorbell or dashcam footage, or eyewitness accounts from anyone who was in the area at the time".

A 41-year-old man is in custody and has been arrested on suspicion of assault, dangerous driving and failure to stop, GMP added.

These assaults take officers "away from being able to serve and protect the public, which is what they come to work each shift to do", she said in a statement released by GMP.
