Kaufman’s restaurant, Elaine’s, sat just a few blocks from Levine’s apartment on the Upper East Side, and he was a regular there, along with media luminaries such as David Halberstam, Pete Hamill, Gay Talese and Tom Wolfe.

Aron Halberstam, 77, says he doesn’t usually mask much these days but wasn’t put off by the requirement.

“Any place which asks you to do it, I just do it,” Halberstam says.

Florida attorney Mendy Halberstam, who was not involved in the Delaware case but who represents other universities that have been similarly sued, said in an interview that the schools feel compelled to defend themselves against cases they believe “are lacking in merit.”

Just a few days ago, Garten posted a recipe on Instagram for her Summer Garden Pasta, which was originally published in her 2006 book "Barefoot Contessa at Home" and developed by her late friend Jean Halberstam.
