As a director, he enjoys boldly iconoclastic strokes whether staging new work, such as Jeremy O. Harris’ “Slave Play,” or classic drama, such as Lorraine Hansberry’s “A Raisin in the Sun.”

From the start, her innovative thinking on form connected her more to the theatrical traditions of Adrienne Kennedy and Richard Foreman than those of Lorraine Hansberry and August Wilson.

It’s well documented how the FBI has monitored and harassed Black writers from Lorraine Hansberry to Sonia Sanchez.

During his time at ACT, Langs also led collaborations with the Seattle Opera, Seattle Symphony, The Hansberry Project and many other local arts groups.

After more than a decade, Intiman is reviving “Black Nativity” in its new Capitol Hill home, in partnership with The Hansberry Project and helmed by Hansberry artistic director Valerie Curtis-Newton.
