Mr Thompson described Kempston Hardwick as "the perfect site for us".

Construction on the site at Kempston Hardwick, Bedfordshire, is expected to start next year if planning permission is granted.

It will be constructed on the site of the former Kempston Hardwick brickworks near Bedford and is expected to generate 28,000 jobs before it opens in 2031.

Stephen Hartley was listed as standing for Reform UK in the Banbury Hardwick ward, ahead of local elections to Oxfordshire County Council on 1 May.

It's a plan with "huge potential in the UK" according to Nick Hardwick, a former chief inspector of prisons, who believes it will make prisons safer and more productive.
