the address in a storage location that contains the actual machine address of a data item or of other information, as the next instruction, or that contains another indirect address.

The first bit of octal digit 2 is the indirect address bit.
An instruction which is to use an indirect address will have a ONE in bit six of the instruction word.
If the memory register containing the indirect address also has a 1 in bit six, the indirect addressing procedure is repeated again and a third address is located.
