Innocent XII

Innocent XII. converted it into a college for priests, by whom it was sold to the Marquis Giraud.

Innocent XII. after him, persevered in refusing bulls to the bishops, favourers of the four articles, and he obtained from them a letter which he accepted as a retraction.

On all sides we see monuments to Popes and Bishops; such as one to Pope Innocent XII., with fine bas-reliefs in marble. 

Innocent XII., a.d. 1691-1700, could boast of having secured the complete subjugation of the Gallican clergy after a hard struggle.

The new Pope Innocent XII. showed himself far less amicably disposed towards William than his two predecessors.
