Investigators determined that the wind-whipped fire was started by welding sparks from work being done by two employees of an ironworks firm working without a permit next door.

Workers from around the world, including Trevithick, came to work in the ironworks.

They also want to improve maintenance of the 135-year-old tower, which is showing traces of rust on some of its ironwork.

There’s dark woodwork, octagonal pillars, curlicues of ironwork in the old-fashioned windows, carved details of garlands and flowers and urns.

It sustained additional damage in the medieval era when ironwork and bakery ovens were built inside.
