Commissioners also will set furbearer regulations and fishing regulations for trout, salmon, whitefish, lake herring and smelt.

“The status of lake herring in Lake Michigan is very similar to Lake Huron and Lake Ontario, and even Lake Erie,” Herbert said.

“For fish caught from Lake Superior … lake herring or cisco, whitefish, smaller salmon and lake trout, depending on how often they eat it.”
