"You look out from the hillside and it's like a load of ants crawling out on to the sandbar," he said.

He was effusive and wide-eyed, looking out into an audience hanging on his every word.

"I could see my sister looking out the window, and she told my father inside the house that I'd walked past with one arm," he explained.

"Even though none of them knew each other, they were all so similar. And I reckon they are just up there watching over us and looking out for us."
