Love's Labour's Lost

The goal: to become one company, honoring Shakes’ and ACT’s respective legacies of classical and contemporary theater, operating out of ACT’s current multi-theater home at the former Eagles building in downtown Seattle at 700 Union St. Shakes’ fall 2024 production of “Love’s Labour’s Lost,” which kicks off its 2024-25 season, will be its final show in its longtime production home at Seattle Center’s Center Theatre.

The season began in April with a spirited take on Shakespeare’s “Love’s Labour’s Lost.”

Based on Shakespeare’s “Love’s Labour’s Lost,” the musical transferred to the West End, though Dyer struggled to get directing work afterward.

At Stratford, he made his name by treating what were then considered lesser plays — “Titus Andronicus,” “Love’s Labour’s Lost” — as though they were new works.

He first won a reputation for freshness and daring in 1946, when, at 21, he staged a precocious revival of Shakespeare’s “Love’s Labour’s Lost” in Stratford-upon-Avon, where Sir Barry Jackson, the director, was in charge of its summer festival.
