Before the election was called, Williams was the MP for Montgomeryshire and a parliamentary aide to Sunak.

The only Welsh Labour MP to speak out publicly against the welfare plans is Steve Witherden, who represents Montgomeryshire and Glyndwr.

He has been an MS for Montgomeryshire since 2011.

Craig Williams was MP for Montgomeryshire from 2019 to 2024, and represented Cardiff North from 2015 to 2017.

Craig Williams, 39, from Welshpool and the former Tory MP for Montgomeryshire, and Russell George, 50, from Newtown and who represents the same constituency in the Senedd, will appear in court in June.
