If these types of droughts are to be expected more often, then Washington’s emergency drought funding should mirror that expectation, said state Rep. Tom Dent, another Moses Lake Republican who sits on the House’s Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee and a co-sponsor of last year’s drought bill.

Deanna Martinez, a Moses Lake City Council member who chairs the mainstream group, called the presidential election “personally, a no-win situation.”

The Moses Lake School District will cut 85 classified staff positions in a second wave of layoffs announced Wednesday as the district reckons with a $20 million deficit.

According to the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, nearly 8,850 students are enrolled in the Moses Lake School District this year.

The union represents about 125 firefighters and emergency medical service workers who provide response to fires at the company’s airfields and factories in the Puget Sound region and at Moses Lake in Central Washington.
