Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, a Republican, said in an email the legislation maintains the integrity of the regulatory process and, without it, “Iowa risks losing hundreds of jobs” in Muscatine, an eastern Iowa city where Roundup is mostly produced.

The Iowa facilities, including in Muscatine, “are very critical facilities to our business, so we’ll remain at some sort of support level,” Christiansen said.

In January, a group of 24 students from Iowa’s Muscatine High School became the first to travel to China.

Sienna Stonking, one of the Muscatine students, now wants to return to China to study.

As part of his 2012 trip to the state, he returned to Muscatine, and the following year a Chinese businessman bought the Dvorchaks' old house, which for a while was turned into a museum.
