Non-rapid eye movement, or NREM, sleep accounts for 75 percent of the night, starting from when someone first begins to fall asleep.

Our sleep patterns can be organized into two main categories: rapid eye movement sleep, known as REM, and non-rapid eye movement sleep, or NREM.
