Orkney Islands Council has accepted it must remain part of the UK - after spending two years exploring opportunities for greater autonomy.

Among them was Orkney Islands Council which agreed a 15% increase to council tax - the largest in the country.

It began to move northwards in 2020 but, since the spring, has been spinning on the spot after it was caught in a rotating column of water near the South Orkney Islands.

The tank was built with the help of the National Heritage Memorial Fund, which awarded £80,000 to Orkney Islands Council to help preserve the wreck.

Meanwhile, Orkney Islands Council has asked the SQA to carrying out an investigation in to why some pupils received their results by letter a day early on Monday.
