In 1990, he spearheaded a successful campaign to get South Dakota to rename Pioneer Day, celebrated on Columbus Day, to Native American Day.

But it is simply "Pioneer Day" in the suburbs of Salt Lake City, Utah, and the girls are dressed in costume as their Mormon ancestors.

And the president’s oldest child, Donald Trump Jr., publicly marked Pioneer Day, a holiday significant for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, during a recent visit to Utah.

Thursday is the last day residents can legally set off fireworks for Pioneer Day.

Pioneer Day is so big, locals often refer to it as “the holiday.”
