During a heated PMQs exchange, Badenoch sought to tie grooming gang inquiries to the local elections, a series of councils and mayoral votes across England on Thursday.

Badenoch also told Newsnight's Nick Watt that she felt she was finding her "groove" as leader of the opposition, and was learning from the early experience of Margaret Thatcher who she said was "terrible at PMQs" at first.

During PMQs, Sir Keir sought to attack Badenoch's record, accusing her of doing "nothing" when she was women and equalities minister.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live after watching PMQs, Mr Titchmarsh said food accounted for around 30% of household spending in 1950s, compared to between 8% and 12% today.

At PMQs Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey asked Sir Keir to "calm anxieties" by giving an assurance that disability benefits for those who can't work wouldn't be cut.
