Scientists with the British Antarctic Survey noticed dead brown skuas on Bird Island in South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands starting on 7 October.

His postdoc, Yi Yang, compiled the world’s most extensive database of repeating earthquakes, with sources not just in the South Sandwich Islands, but also in places like Chile and Kazakhstan.

"In a normal year, tourism accounts for around 20% of our income," says Ross James, visitor management & bio-security officer for the Government of South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands.
