The navy has long found it difficult to recruit sailors into its Submarine Service, often known as the "Silent Service".

Amid trees in the rural town of Keyport, the sleek and free-admission Naval Undersea Museum is dedicated to the so-called “silent service” of U.S. military submarine crew and officers.

The newest exhibit explores the silent service through the generations, including diverse perspectives and more controversial topics such as hazing.

As a nod to its nickname, “The Silent Service,” the uniforms will be a dark navy blue with white letters in a font designed to convey the markings on a submarine’s hull.

In a rare comment about a vessel that’s part of the Navy’s “Silent Service,” the Pentagon on Monday confirmed that an Ohio-class submarine is now operating in the Middle East as part of the Biden administration’s effort to keep the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas from spiraling out of control.
