Online, he’s received love from esteemed places: Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine cosigned Givens’ take on Rage’s “Freedom” with a tweet, which was written about in an article by Spin Magazine; Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit messaged to say he sent Givens’ “Institutionalized” clip to Suicidal Tendencies singer Mike Muir; and elusive Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns put up an Instagram story writing, “Don’t give up on your grunge dreams Jacob, Regards, Dan.”

An expert arranger and session player with too many credits to list, Parks has collaborated with a range of artists including the Byrds, the Mothers of Invention, Skrillex, Randy Newman, Joanna Newsom, Silverchair and Inara George.

Among his earlier work was “My Mind’s Own Melody,” a short musical film in 2012 in which he worked with Daniel Johns of the Australian rock band Silverchair.

This song soundtracked youth angst for me and was the first of many amazing anthems I grew to love from Silverchair.

Grunge gave me a sense of identity and I remember really associating with Silverchair, who were these chilled-out Australian teenagers.
