A new, violent chapter in Sweden's gang wars began when Abdo's mother was murdered in 2023 at her home in Uppsala, north of Stockholm.

Edward Carr, senior scientist and director of the Stockholm Environment Institute’s center in the U.S., said the report’s cancellation is “another effort to erase the evidence on which serious policy debate can be constructed.”

The incident happened on the eve of the Walpurgis spring festival, which brings large crowds onto the streets of Uppsala, which is located north of the capital Stockholm, and known for its university.

Also, Afghanistan did not feature in the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute's top 25 largest exporters of major arms last year.
