Southern California is bracing for a surge of summerlike heat this week, with inland temperatures expected to climb into the 90s and potentially hit triple digits in parts of the San Fernando Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

After a wet, windy and disruptive Memorial Day in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, sunny, summerlike conditions are expected to return by Tuesday morning with highs in the low-to-mid 80s.

Similarly, summerlike temperatures that hit South America during the Southern Hemisphere’s winter were 100 times more likely because of it.
