Points along the state’s west coast could see a surge of up to 15 feet: “Potential peak surge amounts are 10 to 15 feet from the Anclote River to Englewood, 8 to 12 feet from Englewood to Bonita Beach, 5 to 10 feet from the Anclote River to Chassahowitzka, 3 to 5 feet from Chassahowitzka to Yankeetown, and 2 to 4 feet from Yankeetown to the Suwannee River.”

The storm’s main farm impacts occurred in Dixie, Hamilton, Lafayette, Madison, Suwannee and Taylor counties in an area between the Gulf of Mexico and the Georgia state line.

“This one feels different,” said Mitchell Wright as he pushed an icebox onto his truck to take it to higher ground outside of Suwannee Spirits, a convenience store on the main stretch of the city’s Second Street.

Suwannee County, in north-central Florida, ordered the mandatory evacuation of low-lying or flood-prone areas starting at noon Tuesday.
