More specifically, the H.E.S.S. researchers were able to obtain for the first time data about CRe in the highest energy ranges, all the way up to 40 TeV.

But they still aim to boost energy levels of the particle collisions to 100 TeV, or 100 trillion electron volts, about eight times more powerful than the Large Hadron Collider’s 13TeV.

The breakthrough came suddenly, and unexpectedly, when Carter was in the studio with London-based producer Tev'n last year.

“Our results clearly showed there is no such cutoff at 100 TeV,” he says.

“There was a popular belief that there’s a ‘cutoff’ in the energy spectrum of our galaxy at around 100 TeV, which seemed to be a theoretical ceiling,” he recalls.
