Khai Cowley was attacked by a suspected great white shark Thursday while surfing with his father off remote Ethel Beach on the Yorke Peninsula west of his hometown of Adelaide, authorities said.

The body was recovered from the water after the attack, near Ethel Beach in the Innes National Park on the Yorke Peninsula, officers said.

That same month, he submitted an application to explore nearly 8000 square kilometers on the Yorke Peninsula and Kangaroo Island.

This year he plans to conduct an airborne geophysical survey to delineate what he believes is the source rock on the Yorke Peninsula, just 1.8 kilometers down.

Another well, on the nearby Yorke Peninsula, was close to 70%.
