Prof Ramesh, Velc’s Principal Investigator who has published a paper on this CME in the prestigious Astrophysical Journal Letters, said it originated on the side of the Earth.

The coronagraph on Nasa-ESA's mission, he says, is bigger which means it hides not only the photosphere but also parts of corona - so it cannot see the genesis of a CME if it originates in the hidden region.

“Pretty sad when you’re at –4 in the season-ending event, which could easily be the last CME of your career, and you won’t even finish on 18 because they decide to double tee on the final day due to TV coverage window.”

“I think that’s inappropriate for a tournament of this magnitude to be on tape delay,” the CME Group chief executive told the Palm Beach Post.
